A former governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2018 election in Ekiti State, Senator Gbenga Aluko, is dead.

The Ode Ekiti-born politician, who represented Ekiti South Senatorial District between 1999 and 2003, was reported to have died this evening after he collapsed in his residence in Abuja.

He was reported to have been rushed to an hospital where he eventually gave up the ghost, just as an aide to the former lawmaker confirmed that Senator Aluko was neither sick nor exhibited any sign of sickness before his sudden death.

Also confirming the sad incident, a chieftain of the APC in the state, Chief Ropo Adesanya, said Senator Aluko was not sick, adding that he was planning to open a mega gas station in Ado-Ekiti, later in December.

Adesanya was, at various times, a former two-term state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former chairman, Board of Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State.

“He spoke with somebody about four hours ago, only to drop dead shortly thereafter. He was said to have had an heart attack. He was rushed to the hospital, but he gave up the ghost before getting any treatment.”
