The Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams, has described the victory of the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate and President-elect, Bola Tinubu, in the just-concluded presidential poll as a reflection of his “doggedness and consistency in Nigerian politics.”

This was as he urged Tinubu to remain committed to the ideals of democracy by fulfilling his promise to be the “servant of the people.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Tinubu as the president-elect on Wednesday morning.

Tinubu, a former governor of Nigeria’s economic hub, Lagos, was declared the president-elect after the 70-year-old polled 8,794,726 votes to win the tightly contested poll.

Tinubu won the election ahead of Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party; Peter Obi, the candidate of the Labour Party; and Rabiu Kwankwaso, the candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party.

The three leading presidential candidates won in 12 states, while Kwankwaso claimed only Kano State.

Tinubu edged Atiku, a former vice president and his closest challenger, with at least 1.8 million votes.

In a Wednesday statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Adam, Mr Kehinde Aderemi, congratulated Tinubu and said the president-elect’s victory was not unexpected.

“I congratulate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his victory. His victory was not unexpected. It is well-deserved because he has been consistent as a frontline politician who has fought tirelessly for the enthronement of this democracy.

“He had also fought a long battle ahead of this victory. While wishing him all the best in his new political adventure, it is my view also that Asiwaju should remember that it is his duty as the next President of Nigeria to fulfil the democratic vision of this country, the vision that is based on peace, unity, justice, and tolerance, among others,” the statement read.
