The 650,000 barrels per day Dangote Refinery, dubbed the world’s largest single-train refinery, is set for inauguration on May 22nd, 2023, by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Special Assistant to the President on Digital Communications, Bashir Ahmad, stated this yesterday when he tweeted: “Efforts by the Federal Government to make Nigeria self-sufficient in local refining of crude oil and save the scarce foreign exchange used in the importation of petroleum products have received a boost.

“The 650,000 barrels per day Dangote Refinery, the world’s largest single-train refinery, is set for inauguration on May 22nd, 2023, by President Muhammadu Buhari.”

The Nation reports General Manager, Corporate Communications at the Dangote Group, Sunday Esan, said invitations were sent out for the event.

Dangote Oil Refinery is a 650,000 barrels per day (BPD) integrated refinery project in the Lekki Free Zone near Lagos.  It is expected to be Africa’s biggest oil refinery and the world’s most extensive single-train facility.

The pipeline infrastructure at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery is the largest in the world, with 1,100 kilometres of pipeline that can handle three billion standard cubic feet of gas daily.

The refinery alone has a 435MW power plant that can meet the total power requirement of Ibadan DisCo. It will meet 100 percent of Nigeria’s requirements for refined products and have a surplus for export.

It is a multi-billion dollar project that will create a market for $21 billion per annum of Nigerian crude oil.

The refinery is designed to process Nigeria’s and other crude.
