A law to provide for the agency in charge of the protection of rights of property owners concerning forceful entry, illegal occupation, violent and fraudulent conducts, creation of offences concerning real properties in Oyo State, and for purposes connected therewith, scale through the second reading stage on Wednesday at a plenary, presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon Adebo Ogundoyin.
Presenting the bill for the second reading stage on the floor, the House leader Hon. Sanjo Onaolapo stated that the new law, when finally passed, will establish an agency that will seek the redress of landed properties challenges and curb the unguarded activities of the land grabbers in Oyo State.
He added that “the Agency will entertain petitions and investigate any allegation therein contained with respect to any of the offences created under this Law and refer the matter to the Office of the Attorney-General of the State for Prosecution when necessary.
He added further that the Agency will also be saddled with many other responsibilities such as determining the investigation procedure in accordance with the provisions of the law.
He disclosed that the law will act “where necessary, arrest and detain, with the aid of any law enforcement agency, any person at the Agency’s detention facility or any law enforcement agency within the State.
Making submissions on the new law, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Abiodun Fadeyi and Hon. Kehinde Olatunde representing Akinyele 2, State Constituency, described the law as an economic growth vessel that will pave the way for the development of the State through the safe landed properties for both foreign investors and the general public.
The House, however, referred the bill to the Standing Committee on Land, Housing and Survey for proper scrutinisation before passing it into law.
