On Sunday, May 19, 2024, Ekiti State had the distinct honour of hosting one of Nigeria’s most illustrious musicians, Mr. Ayokunmi Akindumila, popularly known as May D. renowned globally for his timeless hit “Ile Ijo.” Mr. May D’s visit marks a significant moment for the state’s cultural and tourism sectors.
The Director-General of the Ekiti State Bureau of Tourism Development (EKBTD), Barrister Wale Ojo-Lanre, along with his esteemed team including Barrister Adegboyega Morakinyo, Executive Secretary, and Peculiar Ekiran, Special Assistant warmly welcomed Mr. May D to the Governor’s Office in Ado-Ekiti.
This visit, driven by Mr. May D’s own volition, underscores his dedication to contributing to the state’s tourism and entertainment sectors under the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
The Bureau celebrated the return of the Ode Ekiti-born star, highlighting his achievements and global influence. In a special gesture of Mrof hospitality, Mr May D was given an extensive tour of Ekiti’s prime tourist attractions. His first stop was the Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort, where management staff, Mr. Dayo Olujekun and Chief Ayo Ademilua, guided him through the unique natural phenomenon of the confluence of warm and cold springs. The Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort celebrated as one of Nigeria’s most scenic and serene destinations, left a lasting impression on the artist.
Following this, Mr. May D visited the Arinta Waterfall in Ipole Iloro. Accompanied by his team, which included Ariyo Olujimi and two other dynamic young entrepreneurs, he experienced the breathtaking beauty of the waterfall. The group spent considerable time enjoying the natural splendour and tranquillity of Arinta Waterfall, a testament to the state’s rich natural heritage.
In his closing remarks, Mr. May D expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the warm reception and shared his commitment to leveraging his influence and platform to boost entertainment tourism in the state. He emphasized the potential of the state’s natural attractions to draw both local and international tourists, promising to use his status to spotlight the state’s hidden gems.
