The governorship candidate of Action Alliance (AA) in Oyo State, Comrade Sikiru Bayo Titilola-Sodo, has appealed to the party’s members and his supporters across the state’s thirty-three local government areas to remain calm and maintain peace, following the omission of some of the party’s candidates, including him, from the final list of governorship candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) last Saturday.
Comrade Titilola-Sodo, in a statement that he personally signed and made available to newsmen on Monday, strongly appealed to the members of the party across the thirty-three local governments and the good people of Oyo State to remain calm and maintain peace as they continue the mobilisation activities in their respective local governments. He, however, urged all the members of the AA not be distracted as a result of the unfortunate development.
According to him, the party’s legal team has submitted a formal complaint to the electoral umpire to address the omission of some of its candidates from the final list released by the INEC in order to do all that is necessary without further delay.
‘The AA’s National Chairman and Presidential candidate, Aare Adekunle Rufai Omo-Aje, has enjoined the affected candidates and party’s members across the country not to panic in any form ahead of the forthcoming general election in 2027’, he stated.
Action Alliance Compliance and Legal Administrative Channels
Comrade Titilola-Sodo further disclosed that the Action Alliance fully complied with all the requirements and deadlines stipulated by the electoral body.
‘Let me express my profound gratitude to “Egbe Ajosepo Fun Itesiwaju Gbogbo Wa”, a non-partisan movement in Oke-Ogun, under the chairmanship of Engr Dauda Alade Olaifa, for the confidence reposed in me through my adoption as its preferred governorship candidate for the 2027 General Elections. I deeply appreciate the movement’s continuing support, solidarity and commitment. As we await the outcome of the petition submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the omission of my name from the published list of governorship candidates, I remain hopeful that the matter will be resolved appropriately’.
He assured his supporters that the party’s leadership at the national level would use the available administrative and legal channels to protect the interest of its duly nominated candidates.
Commitment to Democratic Norms and State Standards
He, thereafter, reaffirmed his party’s commitment to the rule of law, due process and credible elections.
‘Those prematurely jubilating as a result of the omission by INEC should be reminded that an illiterate without any verifiable tertiary education and work experience, not to talk of a coherent manifesto, has never governed Oyo State, right from the military era to the time of past civilian governors up to date. The enlightened people of Oyo State will never lower the banner. It is the reason for which we are called the “Pacesetter State”’, the statement concluded.
