Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has reaffirmed his firm commitment to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
He declared on Tuesday that he will actively work toward the President’s second-term bid, despite the complex political landscape in his home state.
In a statement issued from Osogbo by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke clarified that the ongoing crisis regarding local government control in Osun would not shift his endorsement.
A Unified Front for the South West
The Governor shared this stance during a high-level meeting at the Government House. Attendees included Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi, Speaker Adewale Egbedun, and the Governor’s elder sister, Dupe Adeleke-Sanni. Addressing his cabinet and party loyalists, Adeleke explained that local friction does not change his respect for the presidency.
“We have no problem with President Tinubu. He is our leader. He represents the South West,” Adeleke stated. “I restate our endorsement of Mr President for re-election in the best interest of the South West.”
Adeleke on the Growth of the Accord Party
Governor Adeleke also used the gathering to celebrate the rising influence of the Accord Party following his recent defection. He noted that the party’s reach is expanding rapidly across the region.
“Osun has become yellow, and this is even spreading beyond the state. Our local chapters are organising weekly activities that are attracting thousands of participants,” he observed.
Looking ahead, the Governor promised a renewed focus on “democratic dividends.” His updated agenda aims to prioritise women, youth, and workers while finishing major projects in healthcare and infrastructure. He urged his team to strengthen grassroots ties across all 332 wards.
“Go out and build on the popularity of Accord. Solidify our grassroots support and prepare for open campaigns,” he told his aides.
Local Government Tensions Persist
While Adeleke aligns with Tinubu on the national stage, he remains locked in a fierce dispute with the All Progressives Congress (APC) over Osun’s local councils.
This conflict dates back to the October 2022 elections held under the previous administration. While APC-aligned chairmen resumed office in early 2025 following a court ruling, the Adeleke government held its own elections in February 2025. This parallel system has led to tragic unrest, resulting in at least six deaths, including local chairman Remi Abbas.
Both sides now await a final legal resolution to determine who truly holds the mandate for Osun’s local government.
