Members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ibadan South West Local Government, IBSW, constituency two have been urged to dispel the rumour going around that the governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has endorsed the candidature of the incumbent lawmakers from the constituency.

This was contained in a protest letter written and signed by all the aspirants in the Ibadan South West Local Government.

A source hinted to REPORTERS AT LARGE that the governor has agreed to work with the agreement of all the aspirants in the constituency in the interest of the party.

The source disclosed that the rumour was in the interest of some self-centred leaders of the party in the local government and that the governor will frown at such leaders who are out to destroy the image of the party in their interest.

Against this backdrop, the coast is now clear for all the aspirants to test their popularity through the open primaries as scheduled by the party.

“This is to bring to the notice of all members in the Ibadan South West Local Government that the information being spread around by some self-centred leaders in the local government that Governor Seyi Makinde has endorsed the incumbent lawmakers and mandated all delegates to work in line with his directives is nothing but definite lies by some self-centred leaders of the party”

The source, however, advised the alleged self-centred leaders to stop threatening other aspirants who insisted on going to the primaries, warning that their actions would not be in the interest of the party.

The release reads: “This is to bring to the notice of all members of PDP in Ibadan Southwest Local Government that the information being spread around by some self-centred leaders, specifically Alhaja Abosede Adedibu, in connivance with Moruff Olumide Balogun (Ibadan Southwest Local Government Chairman), that Governor Seyi Makinde has nominated incumbent lawmakers for the second term and mandated all delegates to fall in line by making sure they are affirmed is nothing but a blatant lie from Bose Adedibu and Moruff Olumide Balogun (IBSW local govt Chairman).

“The aspirants warned that they should return the money paid them by the incumbent lawmakers, as nothing will stop the forthcoming primary from taking place. The primaries will go on as scheduled to take place on May 18, 2022.

“This is also to bring to the notice of party hierarchies that these leaders in IBSW have gone to the extent of threatening the delegates who dared not vote for the imposed candidates with expulsion from the party and other severe punishment.

“The resolve of all the aspirants is to go for a free and fair primary and allow the delegates to choose their preferred candidates in the interest of the party, and anything, on the contrary, will spell doom for the party, the aspirants warned.”

The aspirants who signed the release include Kazeem Alarape Abidemi, Ishola Abiodun Adekunle Baruwa, Babatunde George Ige and Oluwafemi Gbemiga I’ve. Others were Samson Opeyemi Fatola, Alimi Kabiru, Gbenga Folorunsho Elebolo, Lawal Modify Olawale and Aliu Rahmon Abiona.
