The Muhammed Sanusi II may be restored as Emir of Kano soon, as the Kano State House of Assembly dissolved the four emirate councils created by the immediate past administration led by Abdullahi Ganduje, sources are revealed.

BusinessDay reports the deputy speaker of the assembly, Muhammadu Bello Butu, confirmed that the dissolution of the 4 new emirate councils was a sequel to deliberations on the floor of the house during plenary.

He said that on Thursday morning, the Kano State Emirate Council Amendment Bill had passed second and third reading and was now being reviewed on the house floor.

But clarified that the separation of Kano emirate into five diminished the capability and dignity of the state at the national level; therefore, revoking the law will restore the lost glory of Kano.
The majority leader, Lawan Hussaini Dala, said that the formation of new emirates had corrupted culture and that the emirate council acted as its guardian.

The five emirate councils were eliminated with the passage of the new law, according to majority leader Lawan Hussaini Dala, who also stated that the commissioner for local governments will act as the oversight body.

A motion to establish a new second-class emirate council in the state was also approved by the parliament.

Since Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is scheduled to sign the new Act later today, there is a good chance that Muhammadu Sanusi 11, the hated Emir of Kano, will be reinstated, according to sources close to the state legislatures.

An executive bill that divided the state into five emirates by establishing four additional emirates was approved by the Assembly in 2019.

The exercise experienced a brief setback upon the nullification of the designation of emirs by the state high court.

However, the legislators once again authorized the establishment of the four new emirates with first-class emirs after the then-governor, Mr. Ganduje, submitted a new draft.

Observers read Mr. Ganduje’s action as an attempt to lessen the power of Lamido Sanusi, the former emir of Kano, who was embroiled in a legal dispute with the governor over the emir’s purported political meddling and disloyalty.

On March 9, 2020, the state government deposed Mr. Sanusi because to his insubordination; Aminu Ado-Bayero, who had been moved from the Bichi emirate to Kano, took his place.
