Dr Segun Musa has accepted an appointment as the new NANC national patron during a leadership summit in Lagos.
The decision followed a high-level courtesy visit to his office on Tuesday by the National Association of Nigerian Comrades (NANC), led by National President Comrade Johnclaude Peter.
The appointment comes at a critical juncture for the organisation as it rolls out systemic reforms to its national structure.
Digital Reforms to Tackle Youth Representation Challenge
The leadership transition coincides with the implementation of the newly approved NANC Unified Identification and Digital Membership Policy 2026. This strategy aims to reform student data collection and curb fragmentation within student activism across West Africa’s largest economy.
For decades, Nigerian student bodies have struggled with internal divisions and verification issues, often undermining their bargaining power with federal authorities. By introducing a centralised digital framework, the association attempts to establish a transparent, auditable base to enhance its political leverage.
The talks also focused heavily on education funding and youth empowerment initiatives amid rising economic pressures on Nigerian students.
NANC National Patron: A Strategy for Institutional Leverage
The leadership expects the new appointment to reset its relationship with both the state and private capital. Dr Musa has pledged to back these structural changes through mentorship and direct advocacy.
Accepting the appointment, Dr Musa expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him by the association and pledged his commitment to supporting NANC through mentorship, strategic guidance, and advocacy for Nigerian youths.
He also reiterated his personal philosophy, urging young people to “be happy all the time and be bold at everything you do.
Dr Musa commended the leadership of NANC for what he described as its discipline, vision, and commitment to sanitising and digitising the association through a credible membership verification process and transparent leadership.
The body believes this formalised structure will offer a more stable platform when negotiating with government institutions and international development partners.
“Dr Segun Musa is a tested patriot, education advocate, and bridge-builder. His acceptance as our Patron adds value, credibility, and fatherly guidance to NANC. We are confident that under his patronage, NANC will reach greater heights in defending the interests of Nigerian students,” Comrade Johnclaude Peter said.
