A 23-year-old man, Dansu Asogba, has been arrested by Ogun State Police Command was over the killing of a 60-year-old womanh, Iyabo Dansu.
The incident reportedly occurred on August 22, 2020, before the suspect’s arrest on September 11.
The victim’s was said to be Asogba’s aunt.
The suspect was According to information gathered by Reporters At Large, the suspect’s arrest was preceded by a report lodged by two children of the deceased, who told the police at Ipokia Divisional Headquarters that they got information on the death of their mother and decided to bury her when they did not suspect a foul play.
Speaking on the arrest in a statement, the police image maker in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said: “But immediately after the burial, they got information that the suspect, a nephew to the deceased, was seen in her house on that fateful day. And shortly after he left, the woman was declared dead.”
The PPRO stated that this aroused the suspicion of the people of the community, who said that they would carry out a traditional ritual, to expose the killer.
On hearing about the intention of the community to go spritual about the deceased’s death, the suspect, Dansu Asogba, came out and confessed to being the one responsible for the woman’s death.
“After his confession, the Divisional Police Officer of Ipokia division, SP Adebayo Hakeem detailed his detectives to the scene, where the suspect was promptly arrested,” Oyeyemi added.
When interrogated, the suspect was said to have admitted killing the deceased, but claimed that he did so because of his belief that the deceased was responsible for the death of his first child and the subsequent miscarriage suffered by his wife.
Asogba further confessed that it was an iron rod he used to hit the woman on the neck that resulted on her death.
The PPRO said that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
