On Monday, the Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) congratulated Governor Seyi Makinde on the successful conclusion of his first term in office and the beginning of his second term, which would last another four years.

In addition, the NUJ applauded the governor for reappointing Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi, a former member of the House of Representatives, as his Chief of Staff (CoS) and for choosing Pastor Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Group Business Editor of the Nigerian Tribune, as his new Chief Press Secretary (CPS).

This was contained in a statement released Monday by the state’s NUJ chairman, Chief Ademola Babalola, and the union’s state secretary, Comrade Olusola Oladapo.

‘On behalf of NUJ, Oyo State Council, we congratulate Governor Seyi Makinde on his historic second term inauguration,’ reads the statement. We are confident that he will continue to serve the state’s decent citizens to the best of his ability after completing his first term in office.

“We are of the opinion that if his first term was outstanding, this second term, which began today, will be a standard, not only for successive administrations in the pace-setter state but also for other states and the country at large, to key into accelerated sustainable development.”

The Oyo State Mobilisation Agency for Socio-Economic Development (OMASED), which will create a public orientation and sensitisation framework that all government agencies and departments must adhere to, also received praise from the NUJ.

The framework, the governor said in his inaugural speech shortly after taking the oath of office, will ensure ongoing education and awareness campaigns using traditional, electronic, and social media and include a schedule for enforcing all current traffic, waste management, and street trading laws.

This suggests that shady street vendors and reckless parking on public streets will soon become obsolete. According to the statement, a new age has truly begun. Omituntun 2.0 is off to a strong start.

“Thank you, Governor Seyi Makinde,” the NUJ said in a statement after the appointment of Olanrewaju as CPS. The executive branch of government and the media stakeholders in Oyo State would now be able to negotiate more effectively due to this appointment. Pastor Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the new chief press secretary, is a top member of Oyo NUJ.

“He is a superb leader in his own right and has a wonderful personality. He is a kind-hearted individual who is the ideal fit for this new position. We are prepared to collaborate and work together to produce quality services, to have a better working relationship with His Excellency, and to create better government for the wonderful citizens of our beloved state.

“We fervently pray that Almighty God will be with him and enable him to achieve great things in the difficult task of portraying the governor in a favourable light.”
