Oyo State Governor, ’Seyi Makinde, has affirmed that local governments across the state are functional, active, and delivering tangible developments for the benefit of the people.

The governor noted that empowering councils to execute life-changing developments reflects the administration’s policy on grassroots growth. By granting operational independence, Oyo State local council projects continue to address long-standing community needs.

Ibadan North Delivers Comprehensive Market Upgrades

The newly commissioned infrastructure includes a two-kilometre internal road, a modern fire service station, additional shops, and a car park. Executed by Ibadan North Local Government, these projects show how local governments are taking the lead in transforming public facilities and boosting commercial safety.

Governor Makinde named the new car park after the historic Ibadan warlord, Balogun Oderinlo. He described the achievements as clear evidence that council leadership in the state works without interference, helping to improve the ease of doing business and strengthen the state economy.

Expressing appreciation in his welcome address, the Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Honourable Seun Olufade, commended Governor Makinde for providing an enabling environment. He noted that such support allows local governments to plan, execute, and deliver vital urban upgrades.

Hon. Olufade explained that the new roads, fire station, and parking spaces will ease transport congestion, improve public safety, and further secure the position of the Bodija International Market, Ibadan, as a leading commercial hub in Nigeria.

Highlighting the practical impact of Oyo State local council projects, contractor Mr. Adekunle Akinpelu commended the government for prioritising public safety in major trading centres. He identified the fire station as a milestone achievement that directly answers long-standing worries over market fires.
