Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, said the legislature’s quick learning curve was due to the high turnover rate in the 10th Oyo State House of Assembly.

He urged lawmakers to support his administration’s efforts to make Oyo State the first to offer 24/7 electricity to its inhabitants.

Just then, he called on the 32 members of the 10th Assembly to work together to promote sustainable development throughout the state.

According to a statement by Oyo State Governor Sulaimon Olanrewaju’s chief press secretary, Makinde made this call on Wednesday, shortly after the Assembly’s inauguration, which took place in the House of Assembly Chambers and saw the re-election of a member representing Ibarapa East State Constituency and former Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin. As the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Muhammed Fadeyi was also re-elected.

He claimed that President Bola Tinubu’s signing of the Electricity Bill into law was one of the advantages of his visits to Abuja.

The Governor provided more details regarding his administration’s intention to generate and distribute power, saying “We have already started the process by presenting the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission Bill before the 9th Assembly. When passed into law, we will allow partnership with the private sector on large-scale energy provision.”

Governor Makinde congratulated the 15 re-elected members and the 17 newly-elected members of the 10th Assembly and expressed his confidence that they will work with his government to maintain good governance.

He added that the achievements under Omituntun 2.0 will surpass those of the previous four years. He expects the parliamentarians’ assistance as he attempts to continue improving the education sector, constructing more infrastructure, and making life more meaningful for citizens.

The governor outlined the administration’s plans to improve the environment and urged lawmakers to join the executive in sanitising the state to create a climate of international renown.

In addition, he congratulated Hon. Muhammad Fadeyi on becoming the Deputy Speaker and Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin on becoming the Speaker.

Earlier, Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin, the newly elected Speaker of the House, praised the governor for setting an example of excellent administration in the state and pledged to work with all stakeholders to advance the state and elevate the Assembly.
