Kano State Government has dethroned the embattled Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, over disrespect to the office of the governor and other government agencies.
This came a few minutes after the Kano State House of Assembly members engaged in physical combat over the crisis.
The State Government disclosed that a new Emir will be soon be announced.
The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, said the removal was with immediate effect.
The statement read by the Secretary to the State Government Usman Alhaji
identifies disloyalty as part of the reason for the dethronement.
He stated that the emir’s action violated the part 3 section A-E of Kano state law, hence the removal. He said the removal was in line with a consultation with relevant stakeholders.
He said a new emir would be announced in due course.
The dethronement of Emir Sanusi was the outcome of the State Council executive meeting, which was presided over by the Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Recall that the erstwhile Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II was alleged for violation of the tradition, culture and religion of the people of Kano.
Also recall that the Deputy Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly and chairman of the Public Complaints and Petition Committee, Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari earlier today (Monday) tried to raise an observation of the raging crisis, which eventually led to physical battle among the honourable members in the house.
It was reported earlier today that the observation of Chudari was promptly opposed by members of the house who were said to be members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
