Police operatives attached to Mushin Division of Lagos State Police Command have arrested some suspected cultists that were reportedly on rampage at Mushin Area of the state.

The arrested suspects included Daniel Adome (18), Popoola Michael (20), Kayode Thomson, (18) and Taiwo Okiki (18).

Reporters At Large learnt that the suspects were arrested on Moroluke/Wey Street, Mushin on Sunday, November 8, 2020 at about 10p.m.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi disclosed that they were members of Omo Kasari Confraternity.

Also, some suspected members of Aye Confraternity were arrested on Monday, November 9, at 12:15 p.m., in connection with a recent cult-related crisis in Ikorodu Area.

Among those nabbed were Opeyemi Oderinde (19), Otubu Samson (17), Otako Jeremiah (16), Kayode Agoro (17), Agbelusi Sunday (20) and Kazeem Ishola (20).

Others were Olasojo Gbolahan (18), Ayodele Olasunkanmi (18) and Segun James (21).
Adejobi said that a special operations team that was despatched by the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, led by the Divisional Police Officer in Ipakodo, arrested the Aiye Confraternity members fomenting trouble in the area.

Items recovered from the suspects included locally-made guns, live cartridges, axes, cutlasses and charm, among others.

Recently, the police commissioner had said that the Lagos State Police Command would rid the state of cultists and hoodlums who were fomenting trouble and threatening the peace and security of the state.

Odumosu had given an order to Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Heads of Department, through Police Wireless Message, that miscreants, cultists and hoodlums should be brought out of their hideouts, arrested and prosecuted accordingly.

According to the Commissioner of Police, cultism was being used as a foreground to commit crime and social vices, the PPRO stated.

He added that the Commissioner of Police had concluded plans to work hand-in-hand with the Lagos State Ministry of Justice to secure speedy trial of the suspects, as the command’s ‘Operation Say No to Cultism’ would continue.

Recognising the roles being played by community members in making the operations successful, Adejobi also said that CP Odumosu called for more support in the fight against cultism and other vices in the state.
