The Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Mr Sunday Dare, said the Federal Government is determined to turn around infrastructural facilities at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium complex, Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
The Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Mr Sunday Dare, said the federal government is set to revive the agelong Obafemi Awolowo Stadium complex, Ibadan, through Private Public Partnership (PPP).
This, according to the Minister, is to enhance sports development in Nigeria.
Dare disclosed this while playing guest to the South West Group of Online Publishers (SWEGOP) at a two-day seminar for the members of the association, held at the Ilaji Farms and Resorts, Akanran, Ibadan.
While citing government efforts at National Stadium, Lagos and others, the Minister said there is an ongoing plan to reach out to some Nigerians to invest in the infrastructural development of the stadium.
He further disclosed that the federal government, in addition to providing needed incentives to private investors, is currently developing a policy that will support value in sports investment.
“The approach we want to adopt is what we are doing with the National Stadium, Lagos. We are trying to look for people that will partner with the government on that project.
“They will build, operate and return to the government after running it for 15 or 25 years. We achieved what we have done with the National Stadium with the partnership with Chief Kessington Adebutu and that should be ready in June,” he said.
