Nigeria’s Afrobeat queen, songwriter and actress, Tiwa Savage, clocked 42 years today, 5 February 2022.

Here are 16 quick facts about her.

1. She was born on 5 February 1980 in Isale Eko, Lagos.

2. Savage relocated to London at the age of 11 for her secondary education.

3. The singer began her music career doing backup vocals for artists such as George Michael and Mary J. Blige.

4. Savage moved back to Nigeria and signed with Mavin Records in 2012.

5. Her debut studio album Once Upon a Time was released on the 3rd of July 2013.

6. In 2014, Tiwa Savage became the first female Nigerian artist to be nominated for BET awards.

7. In 2014, she also won the best female category in the Channel O Music Awards Show.

8. In November 2018, Savage won Best African Act at the 2018 MTV Europe Music Awards, becoming the first woman to win the category.

9. In May 2019, Tiwa Savage announced her record deal with Universal Music Group and exit from Mavin Records

10. The singer’s music is a blend of Afrobeats, R&B, pop and hip-hop

11. Salvage has been involved in youth empowerment and breast cancer screening projects and has raised funds to build schools in Nigeria.

12. Savage was married to Tunji Balogun, popularly known as Tee Billz in 2013 and the marriage crashed in 2018.

13. She attended the University of Kent, the United States and Berklee College of Music.

14. On 8 June 2021, Tiwa Savage was reported to have been involved in a skirmish with Seyi Shay at an upscale salon in highbrow Lekki, Lagos

15. On 8 October 2021, Savage revealed in an interview that someone was trying to extort and blackmail her with a leaked sex tape of her and her boyfriend.

16. On 19 October 2021, the Content of Tiwa Savage’s sex tape was disclosed to be vaginal intercourse, with Savage being a party to it and the male partner’s identity unknown.
