Under its mission of ensuring symbiotic interfacing between the gown and the town, Lead City University, Ibadan, Oyo State, will, on 12 May 2022, host eminent Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in the cultural and performing arts sectors.
Dr Anjola Robbin, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Performing Arts and Film Studies at Lead City University, disclosed during a pressing engagement in Ibadan that the initiative to host these eminent and distinguished Nigerians is a part of a three-day programme of activities set by the Department of Performing Arts and Film Studies of the Faculty of Arts and Education, where Prof Donald Odeleye, Dean of the Faculty, superintends.
She disclosed that the three-in-a-row-for-three-days activities designed by her are Lead ‘n’ Leap, Newscast Fest and Dinner Theatre.
Dr Anjola Robbin revealed that Lead ‘n’ Leap is a theatre and film workshop with the core intention of having veterans in the industry discuss and relate with students on the prevailing circumstances, opportunities and impact of the requisite knowledge needed to succeed in the entertainment industry.
She disclosed that in the past, the department has featured Omowunmi Dada, Ambrose Somide, Jumoke Awe, Woli Arole, Charles Inojie, Funke Olowu, Ibrahim Chatta, Dayo Liadi, Leye Fabusoro, and Femi Odugbemi, while this year’s edition will welcome Toyin Abraham, Tunde Kelani, and Aishat Lawal.
Dr Anjola Robbin revealed that Newscast Fest, which is a campus-based inter-departmental newscasting competition which will feature a major side attraction called Semolympics, a competitive event sponsored by Flour Mill Company aimed at teaching and honing the art of turning semo, a food menu by the students.
These two programmes will be capped by the Dinner Theatre, scheduled at 4 pm on 12 May 2022, with a warm ambience of indelible and unforgettable theatre performances.
Dr Anjola Robbin revealed that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Kabiru Adeyemo, at Dinner Theatre, which hosts and honours Oba Kayode Adenekan Afolabi, Alapomu of Apomu, Osun State, Dr Toyin Kolade, Iyalaje Oodua; Prof. Rasaki Ojo Bakare, Ekiti State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon Demola Ige, Special Adviser to the Governor of Oyo State on Culture and Tourism, Afis Oyetoro, Amb. Ojo-Lanre, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Fayemi on Tourism Development, alongside arts organisations like the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP), Theatre Arts & Movie Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Society of Nigerian Theatre Artists (SONTA), Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), and Nigeria Academy of Letters (NAL), amongst many. The programmes are scheduled to hold on the 10th, 11th and 12th of May, 2022, respectively, at Adeline Hall, Lead City University, Ibadan.
