Police Arrest Two For Running Fake Institution In Niger

The Niger State Police Command has arrested a fake College of Health Sciences and Technology proprietor, Daniel Ishaya, and his accomplice, Francis Ede.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Wasiu, said on Tuesday that the duo were arrested after the command received a tip-off.

Ishaya, 23, hails from Niger State, while Ede, 30, is from Enugu State and allegedly acted as the director of the fake institution.

Wasiu said they established the unaccredited school in Maikunkele in Bosso Local Government Area and had enrolled over 100 students.

“The two persons were suspected of establishing and operating a fake school known as Excellence College of Health Sciences and Technology, located in the Maikunkele area of Bosso LGA,” the statement read. “About 100 students had enrolled on the school at a rate of N78,000 for tuition fees and other charges.”

He added that the fake proprietor stated that the institution has about 20 teachers.

The PPRO said that the suspects had confessed to the crime adding that they started the business in 2020.

He said, “During interrogation, Daniel Ishaya confessed that he established the School in the Year 2020 while he commenced admission in the Year 2021 without any authorization or certification from the appropriate government body.

Wasiu said the fake proprietor confessed to having forged the certificate of registration he has been using.

“He confessed further that he forged a certificate of registration to deceive members of the public to register and gain admission into the school,” he said.
