The 2022 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council’s Press Week, was declared open by the state’s Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, with the commissioning of an ICT centre yesterday.
The ICT centre was commissioned by Oloye Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja, the former governor of Oyo State and Otun Olubadan of Ibadan land.
Ably, represented by his deputy, Barrister Bayo Lawal, Governor Makinde enjoined journalists in the state to serve as watchdogs of society continually and objectively.
On the third day of Press Week, all NUJ members observed a road walk from their union office at Iyaganku to Mokola and back to the NUJ union office.
The NUJ Chairman thanked all members for their support, which enabled him to achieve all that he has achieved so far, and promised not to let them down.
Comrade Babalola stated that NUJ, Oyo State Council, would continue to prioritise the welfare of its members and veterans.
According to him, Press Week is a time for journalists to brainstorm on crucial issues of national interest and participate in physical exercise to ensure healthy living.
Babalola said, “The welfare package for elders and our members is superb. We love them and enjoy very smooth and cordial relationships with all the elders in the Oyo State council. We have made the welfare of our members a top priority.”
“We are also keeping them abreast of all we do, and they are happy with us. We have received their blessings. They are always on our list. We need the elders around to advise and guide us aright.”
Most members were happy and couldn’t hide their feelings, as they praised Comrade Demola Babalola, who led the NUJ executive, for a job well done.
