Asisat Oshoala, a Nigerian striker, has won the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Best Women Player of the Year title for a record-breaking fifth time, making her the finest female player in African history.

Oshoala, who also plays for Barcelona Women, beats Ajara Nchout Njoya (Cameroon and Inter Milan) and Zambian international Grace Chanda (Zambia and BIIK Kazygurt) to pick up the prestigious award.

She becomes the first-ever African to be named Africa’s best women’s player of the year five times, overtaking Nigeria’s Perpetua Nkwocha, who has claimed the accolade on four occasions.

Asisat Oshoala was brilliant for Barcelona last season, helping her side to a flawless league triumph, and despite battling some injuries, she beat other players in Liga Femeni to emerge as the highest goal scorer in the league with 24 goals.

She is the first African to attain such a feat in Spain.
