Magic Johnson’s group’s offer to pay $6 billion to purchase the NFL’s Washington Commanders has been rejected by African American investor, Brian Davis, from the Washington, DC, area.
Davis reportedly made a $7 billion unilateral offer to buy the franchise. Davis founded Urban Echo Energy LLC, a Black-owned, LEED-certified developer of renewable energy assets.
He was also a minority owner of the professional soccer team DC United in the past. He also participated in Duke University’s college basketball programme before joining the Minnesota Timberwolves of the NBA in the early 1990s.
WUSA9 reports that Davis is prepared to give the current owner of the team, Dan Snyder, the first $1 billion and $6 billion within the next two days. He claims to have raised the money by peddling his allegedly $50 billion-worth intellectual property.
According to reports, Davis and Bank of America, which is managing the sale, are still in contact. The agreement hasn’t been finalised yet, but if it goes through, Davis will be the NFL’s first Black majority owner.
