The Divisional Police Officer of Iyaganku Police Station, CSP Afeez A. Oyekan, has revealed that collective efforts remain paramount in the bid to enhance the security of lives and properties in Oyo State.
He stated this during a courtesy visit to Koyejo Area of Oke-Bola Community, Ibadan.
According to him, information must be right and detailed to enhance logistics support.
“The police force remains the friend of the people. We are determined to be very close to our people as we need to serve diligently. Our visit to the community reminded us that we must embrace collective efforts to curb crimes in our society. This society belongs to all of us, and we need all hands on the desk.
“We condemn jungle justice because such act prevents the process of justice as the law won’t have access to viable information. In the case of emergency and logistic support, we are available at your service. This is the 21st century, and using a mobile phone and the internet to reach me is the most preferred method. This helps to speed up our response to distressed calls, emergencies or intelligence reports.
“Our patrol vans drive slowly, as that remains the ethical standard across the country. We are always on surveillance, and we beg community leaders to ensure people are at the entrance gates, especially when locked. We should be conscious of others, especially in cases of medical emergency. Ignorance is not an excuse under the lens of the law.
“We all need to sacrifice our time, money and energy as a community of one people. On this note, everyone is charged to corporate to community standards, laws and demands. Everyone is equal before the law. We are increasing police presence in our environment. We are friendly, and we expect friendly and healthy relationships with the entire community.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Adewole Joseph noted that “there were times, these criminals come regularly, it was a serious battle to curb such horrible experiences. We consciously took charge of our security. We are happy that the police are truly conscious of our security affairs. However, we don’t engage in jungle justice as we are mindful of our duties as law-abiding citizens.
“We are ready to join hands with the police. This is the first time we have ever had this mind-blowing moment.”
“On behalf of the entire community, we appreciate your coming and to form synergy to tackle insecurities. This kind of attitude is a reflection that Nigeria shall be great someday.
