There were a lot of memorable moments during King Charles’s coronation ceremony, from watching Prince George carry his grandfather’s robes to Harry joking with his cousins and the moment Charles was crowned.
But one sweet moment you may have missed happened between Charles and his eldest son, Prince William.
Prince William had a tender moment with his father, King Charles III, at the Coronation. He appeared emotional when he kissed Charles’s cheek and touched his crown during the ceremony before the King gently told his son ‘thank you’.
William appeared to be overcome with emotion as he paid homage to his father, in a break with tradition, kneeling in front of him to give an oath of allegiance to King Charles during the historic first Coronation in 70 years.
He looked at his father intensely and said: ‘I, William, Prince of Wales, pledge my loyalty to you and faith and truth I will bear unto you, as your liege man of life and limb. So help me, God.’ He then stood, touched the crown and kissed the King on the cheek. Charles was moved as he nodded to his son and said ‘amen’ and ‘thank you, William’.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams said this ‘very touching, human moment’ revealed the ‘love and pride on William’s face as he shares a very special moment with his father, that one day his son, Prince George, will share with him’.
Talking about the tender moment between father and son, he told MailOnline: ‘Amidst the splendour, the leading players show revealing human touches. Prince Harry might have shared such a precious moment with his father if things had been very different.
Charles III has been crowned King today, having prayed to be a ‘blessing’ to people of ‘every faith and conviction’, and serve his millions of subjects in Britain and around the globe.
