Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, has reaffirmed that the alumni community plays a crucial role in the institution’s ongoing growth.
A university must strengthen its bond with its alumni because the government can no longer afford to support public education only through tax dollars.
When the Executive Committee Officers of the University of Ibadan Alumni Association (Worldwide) paid him a courtesy visit to his office, he made the remarks.
According to Professor Adebowale, the university established an Office of Alumni Relations after realising the value of the alumni community.
He claimed that with the appointment of a qualified leader, the Office of Alumni Relations will be enhanced even more.
The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed that the responsibilities of the UIAA and the Office of Alumni Relations would not overlap, noting that the latter wants to connect with all alumni, many of whom are not UIAA members.
Professor S. G. Nyityo, the new president of the UI AA (globally), swore his team’s allegiance to the University of Ibadan administration.
He stated that the UIAA was prepared to collaborate closely with the university to connect with alumni.
Professor Nyityo says the University of Ibadan is a Centre of Excellence because many former students have held or are currently holding important positions in business and government.
Other worldwide officers, including Chief Uchemadu Abosi, first assistant secretary, Mr. Abel Johngold, publicity secretary, RAS Joseph Akaanan, second vice president; Professor O. J. Abolagba, third vice president, Dr. Sarah Akintola, secretary, Mr. Chris Obileri, second ex-officio, and Mr Patrick Oyameda, third ex-officio, were on the president’s entourage.
