The Oyo State Government has asked citizens and other interested parties to ignore a false new salary structure that is now going around on social media since it contains absolutely no reality.
This was contained in a release signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the state Governor, Sulaimon Olanrewaju.
The statement reads in part: “It has come to the knowledge of the Oyo State Government that a fake new salary structure is being circulated on social media.
“Although the government is working on reviewing the current salary structure, the committee set up for that purpose has yet to turn in its report. Therefore, the salary structure being circulated could not have emanated from the state government. It should thus be disregarded in its entirety.”
Remember that after the subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) was eliminated, the state government formed a committee with representatives from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and some government officials to develop a new pay scale that would take into account the new conditions in the nation. The state administration gave the committee eight weeks to submit a final report.
The governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde, ordered the deployment of extra Omituntun buses to allay people’s transport concerns in an effort to mitigate the impact of subsidy removal on all residents. Additionally, he stipulated that there should be no rise in the fare for these buses, with schoolchildren and the elderly paying half.
“The state government is still considering further ways of easing the burdens.”
