On Monday, public workers and pensioners in Oyo State staged a peaceful protest to demand an upward salary review. They requested the payment of the deductions from their salary, stating that their take-home pay could no longer take them home.
They also called on Governor ‘Seyi’s Makinde administration to effect an upward review of allowances for retirees.
The workers who converged at the State Secretariat as early as 8am were vehement in demanding to see the governor personally attend to them.
They blocked the major entrance into the secretariat by asking to pay gratuities to retirees who have stagnated since 2021.
The protestants also demanded the release of their Letters of Promotion for 2021 and 2022, respectively.
They insisted that they want Governor Makinde to address them over issues affecting workers in the state personally.
The protesting workers and pensioners are members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and their affiliates.
The protesting workers are still waiting for government officials to address them at the time of filling out this report.
