Long queues resumed on Monday, February 19, at Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) petrol outlets in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) after the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) ceased tanker operations, claiming unsustainable high prices.
The association has informed the Federal Government and the Major Energy Marketers Association of Nigeria that it intends to halt operations.
While monitoring the petrol market on Monday morning, REPORTERS AT LARGE Nation discovered that most petrol outlets had closed.
The few independent marketers that opened up to customers sold the goods for between N648 and N670 per litre.
The few Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) retail outlets that were opened sold the product for N617 per litre amid endless queues.
Besides, black marketers sold 10 litres for N850 in plastic containers.
Meanwhile, The Nation reports that NARTO President, Alhaji Yusuf Lawal Othman, confirmed that the enforcement of the suspension of operations has just begun.
He said it would culminate in a complete stoppage of the haulage of the product.
