Following the jailbreak that saw the escape of 119 inmates, the Federal Government disclosed that it is considering relocating the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Suleja, Niger State.
Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the minister of interior, discovered during a tour of the institution on Thursday that 499 prisoners are housed there, compared to the 250 that the facility was originally intended to house.
But he said that 13 prisoners had been taken into custody again after a total of 119 prisoners managed to escape.
His response came in response to rumours that the facility management planned to release the identities and images of the prisoners who escaped the centre on Wednesday.
REPORTERS AT LARGE earlier reported that following heavy rain on Wednesday night, 119 prisoners managed to escape the facility.
The Medium Security Custodial Centre in Suleja, Niger State, sustained significant damage as a result of the intense downpour.
The heavy rain severely damaged the correctional center’s infrastructure, including a hole in the fence that let some of the prisoners escape.
In response to the development, Adamu Duza, the NCoS spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Command, reportedly stated that the command was working with other security agencies to apprehend the remaining fugitives and that their database would shortly be made public.
