The family of Brigadier-General Benjamin Adesanya Maja Adekunle has announced plans for a series of memorial events to mark the 10th anniversary of his passing.

Gen. Adekunle, a distinguished soldier, was renowned for his leadership in reclaiming Nigeria’s Delta and riverine areas from Biafran forces during the Nigerian Civil War and clearing the Nigerian ports during the cement armada which caused congestion at the ports.

The events are set to take place in Ogbomoso, Oyo State—a city dear to Gen. Adekunle as a reflection of the deep respect he held for the city and its people during his lifetime.

The memorial tributes will begin on Saturday, 14th September, with the 10th Memorial Golf Kitty, scheduled to be held at the Ogbomoso Recreation Club.

This will be followed by a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, (10:00 am) on September 15, 2024, at St. David’s Anglican Cathedral, also in Ogbomoso.

Esteemed speakers at the lecture will include Rear Admiral Jacob Ajani (Rtd), Dr. Olayinka Oyegbile, and Professor Omotoye Olorode.

The memorial events will conclude with a Novelty Football Match featuring Black Scorpion FC versus Valiant FC at Soun Stadium, set to kick off at 4:45 PM.
