As a society, we often assume that students, especially males, are focused solely on their academic pursuits while in school. However, many male students engage in behaviours that their parents may not be aware of.

In this article, we will explore seven things male students may do in school that their parents might not know about.

Bullying and Harassment:

One common behaviour that some male students exhibit in school is bullying or harassing their peers. This can take many forms, including physical intimidation, verbal abuse, or cyberbullying. Parents may not be aware of their child’s involvement in such behaviour, and it’s essential to address this issue promptly and effectively.

Cheating and Academic Dishonesty

Another behaviour that some male students may engage in is cheating or academic dishonesty. This can include plagiarism, copying from peers during exams, or falsifying data. Parents may not be aware of their child’s involvement in such behaviour, and it’s crucial to emphasise the importance of academic integrity.

Risky Behaviours

Some male students may also engage in risky or reckless behaviours, such as substance abuse or careless driving. These behaviours can have severe consequences, including harm to themselves or others, and it’s essential for parents to be aware of the risks and to have open and honest conversations with their children.

Social Media Misuse

With the rise of social media, some male students may engage in behaviours that can have negative consequences, such as cyberbullying, online harassment, or sharing explicit content. Parents may not be aware of their children’s online activities, so open and honest conversations about social media use and online safety are essential.

Secret Relationships

Some male students may engage in secret relationships with their peers, which can concern parents. These relationships can be romantic, platonic, or even toxic, and parents may not be aware of their child’s involvement in such relationships.

Gaming Addiction

With the rise of online gaming, some male students may become addicted to gaming, spending excessive hours playing games during school hours or at home. This can negatively impact their academic performance, physical health, and mental well-being.

Gang Involvement

In some cases, male students may become involved with gangs or other negative peer groups, which can lead to violent behaviour, substance abuse, and other negative consequences. Parents may not be aware of their child’s involvement with such groups, and it’s essential to be vigilant and monitor their child’s behaviour.

What school management and parents should do

It’s essential for parents to be aware of these potential issues and to maintain open lines of communication with their children. By doing so, parents can help their children navigate the challenges of school life and ensure that they make positive choices. Schools must also take proactive steps to prevent these behaviours and support students who may be struggling.

Parents, educators, and policymakers must work together to create safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environments that promote positive behaviours and academic success. By doing so, we can help male students develop into responsible, respectful, and successful individuals equipped to thrive in all aspects of life.
