Oyo State Labour Veterans Association Elects New Officers [Full List]

The Oyo State Labour Veterans Association has elected new set of officers to steer its affairs.

At its 2nd Biennial Annual General Meeting held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at Nigeria Union Of Teachers (NUT) Teachers Resource Center, Samonda, Ibadan, Comrade Veteran Joseph Kehinde Shittu emerges as President alongside other executive council members elected unopposed by the entire members of the Association after the expiration of the tenure of the Association’s pioneer executive committee led by the former Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Oyo State Chapter, Comrade Veteran Ibrahim Bolomope.

The emergence of the new executive committee of the Association marked a significant milestone in the history of the outgoing leadership towards charting a new course for the Association for the next two years.

In his farewell speech, the pioneer President of the Association, Comrade Veteran Ibrahim Bolomope described members of the Association as individuals who emerges from years of struggles and sacrifices within the labour movement while they were all in active Public/Civil service.

Comrade Veteran Ibrahim Bolomope reiterated that the Association was established to enable retired and veteran labour leaders to continue their meaningful contribution to the growth and stability of the trade union movement across various sectors.

He noted that the Association serves as a bridge between past and present labour leaders by offering guidance, mentorship, and sharing of valuable ideals and experiences to strengthen labour administration and advocacy.
In his remarks, the chairman of the Electoral Committee, Comrade Veteran Bashiru Lamidi Apapa said the election process was smooth and transparent, noting that no elective position was contested for as all aspirants were duly nominated and screened in line with the provisions of the Association’s constitution before they were formally presented to members for affirmation through voice votes.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected President, Comrade Veteran Joseph Kehinde Shittu, pledged to uphold the integrity, unity, and founding ideals of the Association while working collectively with other members of the executive committee to sustain its relevance in the labour movement

Hey sought for the continued support and cooperation of all members to enable the new leadership deliver effectively on its mandate.

The newly elected executive committee officers of the Association are, Comrade Veteran Joseph Kehinde Shittu – President; Comrade Veteran Elijah Olu Abiala – Vice President; Comrade Veteran Olugbemiga Obabiyi – Secretary; Comrade Veteran Lukman Balogun – Assistant Secretary; Comrade Veteran Patrick Adewale Araba -Treasurer; Comrade Veteran Morenike Babatunde – Financial Secretary; Comrade Veteran Cosmas Olalekan Oni – Public Relations Officer; Comrade Veteran Rukayat Adebunmi Afonja – Welfare Officer; Comrade Veteran Olusegun Aboke – Auditor; Comrade Veteran Remi Adediji – Legal Adviser while the immediate past Prey, Comrade Veteran Ibrahim Bolomope was affirmed as Ex-Officio.
