The Nigerian federal government has issued a strong warning to 14 states regarding the potential for heavy rain and flooding in the coming days.

FG spoke through the Federal Ministry of Environment in a forecast of heavy rainfall between September 4 and 8, 2025.

Heavy rain to trigger floods

The National Flood Early Warning Centre (FEWS Centre) of the ministry said the downpours could trigger floods in several localities across the country.

In a statement on Thursday, August 4, Usman Abdullahi Bokani, director of Erosion, Flood, and Coastal Zone Management, advised relevant stakeholders to remain vigilant.

“All stakeholders, including state governments and local authorities, must be on high alert to respond promptly to any flooding incidents,” Bokani said.

“Prompt action by state governments and local authorities can significantly reduce the impact of these floods. We urge all communities in the affected areas to stay alert and follow safety advisories,” he said.
