Afia Group Construction was commended on Wednesday by the Oyo State Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development for its significant contributions and modern innovations in the state’s real estate sector.
The commendation was made during the Oyo State Real Estate Conference 2025, held at Jogor Event Centre, off Obafemi Awolowo (Liberty) Stadium Way, Ibadan.
Speaking at this iconic event, Hon. Akin Funmilayo, the Honourable Commissioner for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, represented by Mr. Abdulahi Audu, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, described Afia Group as a real estate company that has proven its worth in the sector over the years.
Funmilayo highlighted the ongoing development of Alhaji Lateef Oyelade GRA, Ring Road, as one of the company’s significant achievements, accomplished in partnership with the Oyo State government through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP).
He urged Afia Group to continue its efforts to be a leading example and to make positive impacts in the real estate sector, particularly in housing development and management.
The Honourable Commissioner also emphasized the importance of a solid relationship between the government and private investors in providing decent and affordable housing for all in Oyo State.
He noted that the partnerships between the government and private investors in real estate are already yielding positive results, aligning with Governor Makinde’s transformational agenda in the sector.
“In bridging the housing deficit, the state government has partnered with credible private developers to deliver affordable housing estates,” he stated.
He added that the government is working to address many challenges facing the sector, including non-compliance and predation by unregistered developers, which pose a critical threat to the integrity of the real estate sector. He noted that this may compel the government to enforce a mandatory registration policy for all real estate developers and agents operating in the state.
In his remarks, the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, also commended Mogaji Adanla, as Afia Group CEO is popularly called, whom he referred to as his dear brother, for his dedication to real estate development in Oyo State.
The conference, organized by the Oyo State Government in collaboration with the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), Oyo State Chapter, and hosted by Honourable Akinsete Olakunle, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Housing and Urban Development, was attended by key stakeholders in the sector, as well as government officials and several other distinguished guests.
The guest list included Afia Group CEO Engr. Abduljelyl Adekunle Karheem, MCIArb, MCIOB, МСАВЕ; Mogaji Adanla, Turaki Adinni of Oyo State; Wakil Faido Tijaniya of Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta states; Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt.
