As Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, prepares to address the nation today during a nationwide media chat to be aired on major national television stations on critical topical issues, a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide, has reiterated his call on the governor to formally declare his interest in the 2027 presidential election, describing the time as ripe for decisive leadership anchored on proven performance.

Hon. Olajide, who represents Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West federal constituency of Oyo state at the House of Representatives, made this known in a statement made available to newsmen by his Special Adviser, Media and Public Affairs, Tolu Mustapha.

According to the lawmaker, Governor Makinde’s governance style, political courage and reform driven agenda have positioned him as one of the few leaders with the credibility and national appeal required to steer Nigeria through its current socio-economic and political challenges.

He noted that Nigeria is at a critical crossroad and requires a leader who understands governance beyond rhetoric, stressing that Engr. Seyi Makinde as Oyo state governor, has over the years, demonstrated capacity, consistency and inclusiveness in leadership.

Hon. Olajide said Makinde’s strides in infrastructure development, education, healthcare delivery, agribusiness, security coordination and civil service reforms in Oyo State have continued to attract national and international attention, placing him in a strong position to offer purposeful leadership at the federal level.

“The call on Governor Seyi Makinde to declare his interest in the 2027 presidential election is not driven by sentiment or sectional interest. It is a call rooted in performance, courage and the clear evidence of what purposeful leadership can achieve within a democratic setting,” the statement read.

He added that Makinde’s political journey, which has been marked by independence of thought, pro-people policies and respect for democratic institutions, stands out at a time when Nigerians are yearning for a leader who can rebuild trust in governance.

The federal lawmaker further observed that the governor’s ability to win elections convincingly and build bridges across political, ethnic and religious divides places him in a unique position to galvanise national consensus.

Hon. Olajide also urged stakeholders within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and across the country to begin a sincere conversation about the future of Nigeria, anchored on competence, character and proven results, rather than zoning sentiments alone.

He maintained that the 2027 general election presents an opportunity for Nigeria to reset its leadership direction and should not be approached with hesitation or uncertainty by those with the capacity to lead.

“As a party and as a nation, we must encourage our best hands to step forward. Governor Makinde has shown, through practical governance, that leadership can be firm, compassionate and result oriented at the same time,” he said.
