The race for the 2027 Oyo State election gained fresh momentum on Friday as Dr Folahan Franklin Olufemi officially formalised his intent to run for office.

The Oxford-trained law graduate and project management specialist visited the Accord Party Oyo State secretariat in Ibadan to submit his expression of interest and nomination forms, marking a significant entry into the contest.

Dr Folahan, who is seeking to represent his people, said his move targets a total overhaul of Ido Constituency governance.

Redefining Ido Constituency Governance

Speaking to a crowd of supporters and party officials shortly after the submission, he noted that his candidacy is built on the pillars of accountability and professional competence.

“We are working with a dedicated team committed to achieving unprecedented growth and development in Ido Constituency. Our journey begins from the grassroots, engaging directly with the people and delivering the true service that governance demands,” Dr Folahan said.

The aspirant, who holds a Master’s degree in Project Management, argued that the state needs a shift toward more technical and disciplined administration. He noted that the 2027 Oyo State election provides an opportunity to test new models of sustainable development in Nigeria, starting at the local level.

He further stated that “Oyo must begin to redefine leadership standards to meet global demands and emerging challenges, and Ido remains our starting point.”

Throughout his address at the Accord Party Oyo headquarters, Dr Folahan maintained that the current political climate requires leaders who can bridge the gap between academic theory and practical grassroots needs.

He told reporters that his primary focus remains the economic and social upliftment of his constituents through structured, project-based interventions.

“This is the time to change the narrative of leadership in Africa by strengthening our institutions, promoting accountability, and prioritising people-oriented governance,” he added.

Academic Excellence Meets Grassroots Action

Dr Folahan comes to the table with a heavy academic background, holding multiple professional certifications, including PRINCE2 (7th Edition), AgilePM, Scrum, and Lean Six Sigma. Supporters at the secretariat suggested that his technical expertise could be the “X-factor” in the upcoming 2027 Oyo State election, especially regarding the management of public funds and infrastructure.

As the political calendar moves closer to the polls, the focus on Ido Constituency governance is expected to sharpen. Dr Folahan’s supporters believe his entry will force a more substantive debate on sustainable development in Nigeria and how local representatives can better serve their communities.
