Sixteen-year-old Osasere Okundaye has rewritten the history books by becoming Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant. She achieved this incredible feat by securing her ICAN professional qualification, a milestone that has drawn widespread praise from the Federal Government.

Her success highlights the sheer brilliance of the youngest person in Nigeria to ever conquer the rigorous national accounting exams, proving what is possible when determination meets opportunity.

On Monday, the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, praised the teenager’s massive accomplishment in an official statement. He described her historic journey as clear evidence of dedication, resilience, deep discipline, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

“I heartily congratulate Miss Osasere Okundaye on her outstanding achievement of becoming Nigeria’s youngest Chartered Accountant at just 16 years of age. This remarkable milestone is a testament to the power of hard work, discipline, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to excellence,” the minister said.

Unleashing Great Nigerian Youth Potential

Minister Olawande noted that Okundaye’s historic victory shines a bright spotlight on the enormous Nigerian youth potential. He urged other young people across the country to stay focused on their personal goals, using her story as a blueprint for their own success.

“Osasere has distinguished herself as a shining example of the limitless potential of Nigerian youth. Her accomplishment reminds us that with determination, dedication, and the right support, young Nigerians can break barriers, set new records, and inspire a generation to dream bigger and strive for excellence,” he added.

The minister also took time to praise the crucial foundation built by her parents, teachers, mentors, and the wider community who supported her demanding academic and professional journey.

“I also congratulate her parents, family, teachers, mentors, and everyone who has supported and guided her journey. Their encouragement, sacrifices, and belief in her abilities have undoubtedly contributed to this exceptional success,” he said.

Securing the Toughest ICAN Professional Qualification

The chartered accounting qualification is widely known as one of the toughest professional hurdles in the country. It is usually won by university graduates and seasoned professionals after years of intense study and stressful examinations. By navigating this maze at just 16, Okundaye became the youngest person in Nigeria to earn the title.

The Federal Ministry of Youth Development has used this moment to reaffirm its promise to help the next generation. The government plans to keep creating fresh opportunities and policies that allow young people to grow their natural talents.

“Osasere’s achievement reinforces our confidence that the future of Nigeria is bright in the hands of focused, determined, and talented young citizens,” Olawande said, while wishing the teenager continued success in her career.

Breaking the National Record for Youngest Person in Nigeria

By clearing her final papers, Okundaye officially set the new national record. She broke the previous record set back in 2022 by Jonathan Adewale. He had earned the title of Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant at the age of 17.

Okundaye’s victory shows that age is no barrier to entry when it comes to elite professional spaces. Her historic run will undoubtedly motivate millions of citizens to realise the true depth of Nigerian youth potential.
