The Federal Ministry of Youth Development has formally endorsed the Oyo State Emerging Political Leaders Summit, with Minister Ayodele Olawande describing the gathering as a vital platform to prepare young voices for the 2027 general elections. In an endorsement letter dated August 11, 2026, sent to summit convener Wale Ajani, the minister praised the project for strengthening youth participation in democratic governance.
Scheduled for August 24–25 at the Ibadan Civic Centre in Agodi GRA, the two-day event runs under the theme “Bridging the Gap, Uniting Political Strength, and Mobilising Emerging Leaders for 2027.” The gathering aims to unite young stakeholders, grassroots mobilisers, and women leaders from across the region.

Minister Olawande issued a direct challenge to the political class, warning against treating younger citizens as temporary election tools.
“I have consistently maintained that young people must not be regarded merely as foot soldiers of politics or mobilised only when elections approach,” the minister stated.
“They must be recognised as stakeholders, decision-makers and leaders with a legitimate role in shaping the direction of their communities and our country.”
He stressed that Nigeria must create platforms promoting inclusion and constructive engagement to prepare leaders equipped with character and capacity.

Addressing the upcoming political transition, the minister urged young figures to adopt a cleaner, unified approach to political organising.
“We need young political leaders who can organise without dividing, compete without destroying relationships, disagree without becoming enemies, and understand that politics must ultimately be about service, responsibility and improving the lives of the people,” Olawande wrote.
Convener Wale Ajani expects the gathering to attract influential voices from across the state. The minister commended the organising team, urging delegates to use the event as a catalyst for genuine democratic progress rather than viewing it as routine political activity.
“I encourage all participants to see the Summit as an opportunity to build bridges, exchange ideas, strengthen unity and inspire a new generation of purposeful political leadership,” Olawande added.
“The future of our democracy will be shaped by young people who are prepared not only to seek leadership but also to demonstrate the character, competence and courage required to lead.”
