The campaign organisation of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has dismissed accusations from the Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO) that the governor is acting as a “spoiler” in the upcoming presidential race, describing the claims as an act of political panic.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, rejected SSACO’s assertions, arguing that the opposition group’s persistent attacks highlight their growing insecurity regarding Makinde’s national momentum.
Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation: Focus on National Reset and Competence
Governor Makinde, who is contesting the presidency on the platform of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), is running on a platform focused on national restructuring and governance reform. According to Olanrewaju, the governor’s campaign is built on a track record of constructive engagement, bridge-building, and issue-driven leadership.
The allegation by the Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO) that Governor Seyi Makinde is attempting to play a spoiler’s game is as misplaced as it is misguided,” Olanrewaju stated. The claim reveals far more about SSACO’s panic than about the governor’s presidential ambition. It is an assertion without substance, crafted in haste and sustained only by a wonky imagination.”
The statement further questioned the logic behind SSACO’s repeated criticisms, noting that if opposition strategists genuinely believed Makinde posed no electoral threat, they would not devote significant energy to attacking his platform.
Oyo State Politics and Presidential Ambitions
The response from the governor’s office also addressed recent opposition commentary directed at Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, the APM’s gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State. Olanrewaju noted that the frequent attacks on Adekanmbi further demonstrate the opposition’s apprehension regarding the party’s rising profile both state-wide and nationally.
Governor Makinde’s engagement at the national level is grounded in issues, not political rhetoric,” the statement continued. “His conversations with Nigerians across regions reflect a desire for stability, competence, and clarity, qualities that have defined his public service. SSACO’s commentary, by contrast, has become a distraction in search of relevance.”
The Makinde media team reiterated that the governor’s campaign remains focused on direct voter engagement across the country, maintaining that opposition criticism would not derail his presidential bid.
