The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has updated the list of governorship and deputy governorship candidates for the 2027 elections on Saturday, October 31, 2026. The Commission also reinstated some previously excluded candidates while leaving others out. The INEC named 16 candidates, each with a deputy, for the Oyo State 2027 gubernatorial election.
The updated released list implies that voters will choose from the list at the polls on February 6, 2027. The document was signed by INEC Secretar, Rose Oriaran-Anthony.

Key Oyo Governorship Candidates 2027 to Watch?
The APC ticket pairs Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli with Adedeji Adesoji Michael. The PDP ticket is Gbolarumi Hazeem Ola and Aderoju Ademola Emmanuel, and the Labour Party fields Kareem Thompson Sola with Olabode Simeon Bolaji. The ADC and APM tickets are led by Adegoke Taofeek Adegboyega and Adekanmbi Abimbola respectively. Only a few candidates are under 50, which points to a field dominated by veteran politicians.
Missing Names and Parties on the Oyo Governorship Candidates 2027 List
The list has drawn complaints over omissions. The Oyo NNPP governorship candidate, Adebiyi Adedapo, petitioned INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan over the omission of his name from the final list. He also said his EC9 form had been displayed at INEC’s Oyo State office before his name was left out. The NNPP slot on the published list carries a different name.
Some registered parties, such as the Action Alliance (AA) and its candidate, Comrade Sikiru Bayo Titilola-Sodo, and Social Democratic Party (SDP), are not on the Oyo list at all. Elsewhere, INEC omitted Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates in Ogun and Gombe states.
After the list came out, Titilola-Sodo urged party members and supporters across the state’s 33 local government areas to stay calm and keep the peace. He later said he could not tell whether his name was omitted or deliberately removed, and that he would say nothing further until INEC responded to his case.
He added that no law allows INEC to drop candidates’ names, called the situation a mess affecting several parties and states, and said he was waiting for INEC to correct the error. He and SDP candidate Mogaji Olusegun Agboola urged INEC to fix the errors before the October 24 deadline.
Meanwhile, INEC said a Supreme Court judgment on mandatory requirements was central to its decision to exclude parties that failed to meet them. The commission has also published a clarification on why certain candidates did not appear on the final list. Affected candidates and parties may still seek redress, so the list could change.
What the Oyo Governorship Candidates 2027 List Means for Voters
With 16 parties in the race, the Oyo contest is crowded and open. Voters in Ibadan and across the state should confirm candidate details on INEC’s official portal. Political observers will be watching how the omission disputes are resolved before the February 6, 2027 election.
