The Kingmakers and Traditional Chiefs of Ojo Town in Egbedore Local Government Area of Osun State have voiced deep concern over media reports surrounding the vacant Olojo of Ojo Stool, describing the controversy as unfortunate and capable of stalling grassroots development.
Clarifying the legal status of the chieftaincy matter, the traditional leaders appealed directly to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to intervene, ensure accurate reporting of court proceedings, and resolve the prolonged succession delay.
In an official statement issued on Saturday, 31 October 2026, signed by former Ward Councillor Alhaji Akanji Nurudeen Opatunde, the traditional stakeholders set the record straight regarding the ongoing court litigation. The statement stressed that Ojo remains a peaceful, united, and progressive community whose citizens should not suffer leadership deficits due to misconstrued legal filings.
Kingmakers Address Olojo of Ojo Stool Legal Disputes
Addressing the lingering court actions, the kingmakers explained that an earlier interim injunction granted in March 2026 was explicitly limited to 14 days. According to legal counsel representing the community, that order expired without renewal or extension. The stakeholders noted that the original motion on notice remains unargued, whilst questions regarding the competence of the substantive suit remain unresolved.
Regarding a subsequent order reportedly granted by the High Court sitting in Ede on 29 October 2026, the stakeholders urged the public to rely strictly on official court transcripts rather than premature reports.
“It is important that the public understands the distinction between an interim injunction that has expired, a motion on notice awaiting determination and any subsequent judicial order. Court proceedings must not be misrepresented or presented as a final determination of the succession dispute,” the statement emphasized.
The traditional council highlighted that the continuous vacancy of the monarchical seat creates an avoidable leadership void. This void hinders community mobilisation, local economic advancement, cultural preservation, and grassroots development across Egbedore Local Government Area.
Appeal to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke
The stakeholders appealed to Governor Adeleke to give the succession matter swift administrative attention within legal boundaries and subsisting court directives.
Ojo is a peaceful community. Our people deserve the same opportunities for progress and development being enjoyed by other communities across Osun State. We appeal to Governor Adeleke to ensure that all lawful avenues towards resolving the succession dispute are pursued without unnecessary delay.
Regent of Ojo Land High Chief Jamiu Falowo Urges Peace
Lending his voice to the call for resolution, the Regent of Ojo Land High Chief Jamiu Falowo urged the state government to facilitate the emergence of a substantive monarch to spark economic progress.
“Ojo is very peaceful. We believe the government will listen to our appeal and bring development to our people. Traditional leadership is important to the economic and social progress of any community. We are patiently but earnestly waiting for the Osun State Government to appoint a king for our community in Ojo,” he said.
High Chief Falowo urged all indigenous sons and daughters of Ojo, both locally and in the diaspora, to remain calm, united, and law-abiding as statutory processes unfold. He also appealed to media professionals to verify sensitive court details carefully before publishing updates on the Ojo kingmakers succession dispute.
Reaffirming full respect for the judiciary and the Osun State Government, the leadership expressed confidence that establishing a traditional ruler under established customs will restore full momentum to the ancient town.
“Our appeal is for justice, peace and progress. Ojo deserves a substantive traditional ruler, a united community and a future of sustainable development. We must not allow unnecessary controversies to deny our people these legitimate aspirations.”
