The Minister for Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has revealed the real reason Nigerian borders were closed.
He ascribed the reasons for the failure of the Benin Republic and the Niger Republic to respect the ECOWAS treaty on the transit of goods.
Mohammed, who disclosed that the two neighbouring were sabotaging the economy of Nigeria, added that the security of the country was also being threatened.
The minister, who stated this, on Monday, in London during an interview session with Reuters, revealed that weapons were being smuggled into Nigeria under the guise of smuggling rice.
He, however, said that the border closure had been positive and successful in terms of revenue, securing Nigeria and boosting the capacity of farmers in the country.
