Abductors of a man, Abiodun Obafaye, who was kidnapped on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, under Iwo Road Bridge in Ibadan, Oyo State, have called his family to demand for N5 million as ransom.
It was learnt that the victim was abducted by yet- to-be-identified men at about 4:30pm after leaving a bank where he went to withdraw money for his Point of Sale (PoS) business.
He was said to have been driven off in a commercial car to an unknown destination.
The man’s abduction was said to have been made known to his family on Thursday, April 8, after they had been worried about his unknown whereabouts.
His wife, one Mrs Temitayo Obafaye, had reportedly gone to Akobo Division at about 12:20 p.m., to report the matter.
Her report at the police station was as a result of calls from the abductors through her husband’s handset and phone number, demanding for a ransom of N5million, which was asked to be paid into his personal account.
It will be noted that victim had his PoS machine at the time he was abducted.
A source familiar with the couple told Thenewsbearer that the family was just managing to survive, and live in rented rooms, wondering on how the abductors were expecting their victim to have such money to pay.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the story when contacted, saying that the police were investigating the matter.
“Our officers and men are actively on the trail of the abductors through intelligence and tactical teams, supported by active local hunters and vigilantes,” the PPRO said.
