The Senior Special Assistant to Oyo State Governor on Sustainable Development Goals, Hon. Kunle Yussuf MON, has appreciated the management of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) for considering Lagelu and Ibadan North local government areas of the state on two of the SDGs goals (2 and 6), which are targeted at eradicating hunger and water sanitation respectively.

Yusuff, who expressed satisfaction at the development while speaking with journalists in his office in Ibadan on Thursday, explained that the present administration, under Governor Makinde, has been giving utmost priority to 17 Global Goals on SDGs 2030 Agenda since its inception.

He added that the Governor has created enabling environment for Development Partners, which has positively engendered effective Collaboration.

The NIPSS is a high-level centre of reflection, research, and dialogue on issues of society, particularly as they relate to Nigeria and Africa.

They conduct interdisciplinary research into the Social, Economic, Political, Security, Scientific, Cultural and other problems facing the Country, formulate and present useable policy proposals to the Federal Government and other stakeholders in Nigeria.

In line with the objectives, NIPSS is setting out to assess the implication of Sustainable Development Goals- SDGs in 12 communities selected from twelve Local Governments in six states representing each of the 6 geo-political zones of the country, in which Oyo State is among.

In His remark, the Lagelu Local Government Chairman, Hon. Kazeem Gbadamosi, equally appreciated the gesture of the NIPSS for considering both Lagelu and Ibadan North Local Government Areas, saying that the survey will definitely open the two local government areas to many opportunities at the Federal level.

The SDGs Boss, however, used the opportunity to highlight some of the SDGs challenges being witnessed in the States to the representatives of the NIPSS, with a view to making it reflect on their National survey for appropriate recommendations from the Federal Government.

Speaking earlier, Dr Rasak Olabumi, a senior fellow at NIPSS, while addressing the SDGs Boss, Lagelu and Ibadan North Local Government Chairmen that the two local government areas are selected for the field research survey.

While saying that the survey will enable them to collect data and make a recommendation to the Federal Government, Olabumi added that the survey will equally focus on Infrastructure, Agriculture, Health and Funding.
