Residents of Lafia, Nasarawa State capital and its environments are for the first time enjoying ‘real’ electricity as the 1.6km Lafia 330kV Double Circuit Transmission Line-In, Line-Out (LILO) is 100% completed and energised and connected to the national grid.
The feat was accomplished on Friday, November 12, 2021. Work commenced on the multi-billion naira project in 2017.
Nasarawa State is set to experience transformation. There is excitement in the atmosphere!
“What we have been watching on television and hearing about happening in other places is what we are now witnessing in our own community too”, an excited Ibrahim Mohammed, youth leader of Akurba community in Lafia, location of the project said of the project.
“The youths will now become gainfully employed with an adequate supply of electricity”, he added.
A prince of the community, Ahmed Uba, the community where the project is located said “we give God the glory. Most youths that are presently jobless will now be gainfully employed as welders, barbers and other small and medium businesses will now begin to thrive.”
This has immediately saved the state government N2.4billion, which it has projected would cost to connect the entire state with the national grid.
It is also instructive to note that for the 24-year history of the creation of the state, its Government House will now be connected with electricity.
