Share on WhatsappShare on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Linkedin

The founder, spiritual head, and grand imam, Shafaudeen, is in Islam Worldwide, Alh. Engr. Prof. Sabit Ariyo Olagoke disclosed that porous borders, non-functional education, bad governance, and loss of cultural values, among others, have been identified as primary reasons why most Nigerian youth engage in illegal means of making money.

Prof. Olagoke said this during the fourth edition of the Ramadan Lecture series of the Lead City University Muslim Community held at the Adeline Hall, Lead City University, Ibadan, recently.

While speaking at the lecture tagged “Pursuit of Wealth in Contemporary Times: Islamic Perspectives,” the Erudite Scholar hinted that Nigeria is not decisive and firm on damage control through the weapons of law-making, while the judiciary, according to him, was doubted and ridiculed.

However, he called on Nigerian leaders to be proactive in solving the problems of the suffering masses. He specifically urged them to emulate developed nations that are firm and efficient in protecting their borders with sophisticated, state-of-the-art equipment.

He warned the Nigerian government to put in place a stringent penalty for anyone caught trying to make illegally acquired wealth, such as sincere forfeiture of properties and the death penalty depending on the gravity of the offence and the area.

“Nigeria is yet to decisively come out to curb the nefarious activities because their great ones are equally involved”

Earlier, before the lecture, Prof. Olagoke, who paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor of the Citadel of Learning, lauded the University’s management for academic excellence and commended the institution for ensuring the proper accreditation of all its programmes.

Prof. Olagoke, who presented some of his books to the institution, also pledged to work with the institution in the area of student enrolment and that he thanked God for the high level of development in the school.

“I must commend the leadership of the Institution for the foresight to bring a rapid and tremendous development to the school”

While responding, the Vice Chancellor of Lead City University, Prof. Kabiru Aderemi Adeyemo stated the importance of the month of Ramadan, which is giving back to society. He, however, requested a synergy between Shafaudeen and the institution, disclosing that the doors of the school are open at all times to collaborate with the front-line Islamic group.

In his remarks, the chairman of the occasion, former Oyo State Head of Service, Alhaji Tajudeen Aremu, called on parents to train their children in the way of Allah so that they will not be victims of the alleged Yahoo-yahoo syndrome, which is bedevilling the country at large.

“It is very important to train our children in the way of God and the most important is for the children to imbibe the good work as taught in their various homes and sacred places of God”

The chairman of Lead City Muslim Community, Alhaji Bayo Busari, commended Prof. Olagoke, whom he described as a complete role model. He specifically thanked him for sparing time from his tight schedule to deliver the lecture, which, according to him, was timely and deserving of a positive response.

Prof. Olagoke, however, disclosed that we should be prudent in the way we spend without being miserly.

“Individuals or any nation that stands on Halal or Islamic principles of economic management always fare well, never lack but benevolent to others with remarkable marks of happiness on all”.
