5 Wounded In Boko Haram Ambush Of UN Envoy

THE army authority reported that five personnel wounded when the Islamist terrorist ambushed the troop on humanitarian escort from Bama enroute Maiduguri by suspected Boko Haram, hiding in Meleri Village, a few kilometres from Kawuri on Thursday.

Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, said in a statement released on the army authority Facebook via Twitter, explaining that two soldiers and three civilians were wounded during the shoot out, before they successfully clear the terrorist group from their way.

The statement read: “The gallant troops, however, successfully cleared the ambush and exploited up to Afunori. Unfortunately, two soldiers and three civilians were wounded in the ambush among whom were staff of the United Nations agencies and other international humanitarian organisations.”

Colonel Sani who said the victims were responding to treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, sympathised with soldiers, United Nations and the international humanitarian organisations who wounded in the sad incident, saying “The Nigeria Army wishes to sympathise with our wounded colleagues, United Nations and other non-governmental organisations whose personnel were also injured in this said incident.”

He concluded by with commitment to securing North East and it’s people, saying  “we wish to reiterate our determination and commitment to ensuring safety and security in the North East and safeguarding the lives of all persons.”
