Evangelist Victor Uwajeh, an international investigator based in the United Kingdom and a former special investigator for the Special Presidential Investigation Panel for Recovery of Public Assets (SPIPP), has urged President Bola Tinubu to step up efforts to combat corruption in Nigeria.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) consultant Uwajeh wants the Bola Tinubu administration to concentrate on having government employees and politically exposed individuals retrieve stolen money.

Uwajeh suggested that recovery efforts should concentrate on a few sectors. These include scams involving oil subsidies, crude oil liftings and non-remittances, crude oil SWAP agreements, offshore agreements for processing crude oil, duty waiver fraud, and rice subsidy fraud.

In the statement, Uwajeh also suggested that the Bola Tinubu administration look into massive fraud at all federal government offices.

Additionally, Victor Uwajeh counselled President Bola Tinubu to have the political will to combat impunity and corruption in Nigeria.

He said, “Looting of public funds has become endemic in Nigeria, and this is done with impunity, knowing that nothing will happen to the perpetrators of these crimes.

“It is also important for the administration of Bola Tinubu to implement Presidential Executive Order No. 008 of 2018, (Amended 2019) on the Voluntary Offshore Assets Regularisation Scheme (VOARS).

“Implementation of this Executive Order will assist the Government tremendously and will be a game changer to the primitive acquisition of assets by Politically Exposed Persons and their cronies.”

While commending President Bola Tinubu for the choice of security chiefs and, most significantly, the National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Uwajeh described the new NSA as “an expert and very reliable compatriot.”

Therefore, he called on President Tinubu to avoid mediocrity in appointing people to his administration, saying, “Capacity and excellence must be his watchword.”
