Oyinkansola Ewedemi, a 15-year-old Nigerian, has been accepted as a member of the National Society of High School Scholars in Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States.
According to a statement provided to The PUNCH on Monday by James Lewis, co-founder and president of NSHSS, Ewedemi maintained a high-grade point average throughout high school.
She is a first-year student in Arlington, Texas’s James Martin High School’s STEM curriculum.
Lewis stated that the NSHSS honoured elite academics who had exhibited exceptional leadership, research, and civic engagement.
He said, “On behalf of NSHSS and our co-founder, Claes Nobel, a member of the family that established the Nobel Prizes, I am honoured to recognise the hard work, passion, and commitment that Oyinkansola has demonstrated to achieve this exceptional level of academic excellence.
“Oyinkansola is now a member of a unique community of scholars, a community that represents our very best hope for the future.
“We are proud to provide lifetime membership to young scholars to support their growth and development.
We help students like Oyinkansola build on their academic success by connecting them with learning experiences and resources to help prepare them for college and meaningful careers.”
Lewis added that NSHSS members automatically become lifetime members at the time of their initial membership.
“Each step along the way, from high school to college career, NSHSS connects outstanding young scholars with the resources they need to develop their strengths and pursue their passions,” he stated.
The brilliant Nigerian plays the violin in the orchestra, and her team competed in robotics competitions across several Texas cities on behalf of her school.
Oyinkansola Ewedemi aspires to study aerospace engineering as an engineering major.
